2003 chevy with 496

Recommended Posts

My neighbor has a 2003 Chevy 2500 regular cab with the 496, about 215k miles. Motor still runs good, tranny he says acting up. Are these motors worth anything? I was thinking of buying the whole truck and parting it. Maybe put the motor in a c10 or something

That motor's getting up there for miles, so I'd pay about 500 for the engine and expect to freshen it up. Trans could be a 1000 series Allison and t-case an NP261.

If I had a project in mind, I'd consider giving $1000 for the whole truck.

It has the Allison, $1,000 fair price for the whole truck?

Yeah, it's worth doing with the intent of freshening the stuff you're going to keep. Sell the Allison and T-case for a core and get most of your money back.  I may be interested in the disk brake 14B.

That motor uses all common LS accessories, but has it's own intake, injectors, water pump and brackets. Freshen it up, drop a cam in it and tune it. 440hp and 600+ ft lbs of tq.  I did one in a Jeep :)

It uses SBC/BBC engine mounts and will drop into place of a BBC and SBC.  BBC headers will fit it and work for whatever chassis you buy... so like BBC header for your C10.
